What inspires you work most?

The experiences I have while outdoors taking photographs.

Favorite piece of photo equipment?

At the moment it’s been my Contax t2 film camera. Slowing down my process helps me see things differently than when I shoot with a digital camera.

What is your favorite area to shoot? 

Over the past few years my favourite place to shoot has been anywhere along the British Columbia coast.

Where is somewhere you haven't photographed that you'd like to? 

The moon.

What equipment did you use to get this Old Growth shot specifically? 

That image was taking out the window of a steamed up helicopter on a rainy day using a Canon 5d3 and 24-70mm zoom.

What brought you to the remote area of the Great Bear Rainforest in the first place? 

I've been working with a resort there called Nimmo Bay and have built a relationship with the owners. They are doing great work in the GBR with organizations like Raincoast Conservation Foundation.

How has surfing influenced your photography both aesthetically and your career path?

Photographing surfing allowed me to travel the world, but while traveling made me realize what a special place British Columbia is. From a shooting perspective it gave me that in-water view that I’ve carried over to other areas of my photography, like fishing photography.

Do you get to surf much when you're not taking photos, or are you able to balance work and play while on assignments? 

Lately I’ve been focused on fly fishing photography, but generally I get to fish more on assignment than when I’m home. It’s all a balance.

What does being a member of 1% For The Planet mean to you? The planet has giving me a career and life I love. Giving 1% of my profit to organizations that I believe are creating lasting environmental change is the least I can do.

If you weren't a photographer what would be your day job be?

Growing up my family owned an oyster farm, which I worked on a lot as a teenager. If I wasn’t a photographer I’d love to raise oysters.
