What is you favorite subject to shoot?I can't get enough of the outdoors and really thrive when I'm working with people, so the natural intersection of the two is a genre I usually call outdoor adventure lifestyle photography.
Who are your biggest influences? Oh man, there are too many to choose from. I'm a big believer in constantly taking in good work and letting it shape your own style. Here are some of the guys I'm currently digging: Sam Robinson and River Jordan both have really beautiful lifestyle work, Dan Barham has been shooting killer mountain bike and cycling work for years, Joey Schusler and Margus Riga produce phenomenal mountain biking stills as well, Chris Burkard and Jimmy Chin are really rockin' the outdoor adventure world, and Erik Ålmas is a master at conceptual advertising photography.
What photography trend makes you cringe? I'm cringing just thinking about it; there's this weird fad that's been spreading like a virus through Instagram that can be categorized into three general areas: wide angle shots of guys doing ninja kick jumps on boulders/rocks/cliffs, twenty-something-year-olds wearing American flags in the wilderness, and hipsters dressed all-hipstery standing in fields, forests, or mountains.
What's it like shooting a Rumpl? It's a fun challenge for sure! I believe that good lifestyle photography is driven by authentic narrative, so I did my best to develop a concept that lent itself well to a good story and was simultaneously a good use case for the product.
